Clocks back one hour, but we sleep only 33 minutes longer
Autumn time change gives an extra hour, but research shows we sleep on average just 33 minutes longer. The rest of the time is lost because we go to bed later or wake up following earlier habits. The body responds primarily to light and established daily rhythms, not clock readings. Full adjustment to the new time typically takes several days.
