Hole in coffee packaging is a CO₂ valve, not a defect
The small opening visible on coffee bags is a one-way gas valve that releases carbon dioxide emitted by freshly roasted beans. Without it, the package would swell and burst, and allowing outside air in would speed oxidation and flavor loss. The valve begins working within hours of roasting and allows coffee to stay fresh longer.
