Pistachios and sleep: researchers examine tryptophan and melatonin
An analysis published in "Nutrition Research Reviews" shows that a 30 g portion of pistachios provides tryptophan, vitamin B6, magnesium and phytomelatonin — compounds linked to circadian rhythm regulation. Researchers emphasize that the interaction of all these components, not any single one, is scientifically interesting. However, there is no evidence that eating pistachios in the evening will shorten sleep onset time or extend sleep duration. Controlled clinical trials in humans are needed.
