Lublin hospital removes lung clots without opening chest
Doctors at USK Nr 4 in Lublin have begun using the Penumbra Lightning Flash 2.0 system to treat pulmonary embolism without open heart surgery. The procedure involves inserting a special catheter through a blood vessel, which uses suction to remove the clot blocking the pulmonary artery. The minimally invasive method relieves strain on the right ventricle, which is crucial in the most severe cases of this dangerous disease.
