FDA approves Isembyld: first drug slowing muscle wasting in SMA
The U.S. FDA has approved Isembyld from Scholar Rock — the first therapy targeting muscle wasting in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). The drug is for adults and children from age 2 who are already receiving SMN2-targeted therapies. In a phase III clinical trial, patients taking Isembyld with an SMA drug improved motor function after one year, while the placebo group showed decline.

Finally!! been waiting for something like this for so long, it's about time they approved a drug that actually targets the muscle wasting side of SMA and not just the SMN protein stuff. Nice to see real progress happening. hope they get it accessible to people who actually need it and dont make it impossible to afford 🙏
