High cholesterol can show on skin: xanthomas and corneal rings are warning signs
High cholesterol is often called a "silent threat" because it causes no obvious symptoms for a long time, but the body does send subtle warning signs visible to the naked eye. These include xanthomas — yellowish fatty deposits appearing around eyelids, tendons and elbows — and a white or grey ring around the cornea known as arcus corneae. Anyone noticing such changes is advised to have a lipid panel test done.
