11 hours of leisure weekly linked to longevity in Sardinian centenarians

New research among residents of Sardinia, one of the world's so-called Blue Zones, suggests that personality and how people spend their leisure time — around 11 hours per week on recreational activities and social bonds — may be a more important driver of longevity than diet or climate alone. Scientists had long focused on food and environment to explain why Sardinian centenarians live so long in good health. The findings shift attention toward psychosocial factors as a key ingredient of a long life.
