Blueberries boost blood flow in seniors' brains by 7 percent

A three-month study by researchers at University of Kansas Medical Center involved 60 people aged 65–89. Seniors who took daily powder from freeze-dried blueberries (equivalent to a glass of fresh fruit) saw an increase in blood flow of about 7 percent in the anterior cingulate cortex — the area responsible for attention, planning and cognitive control. Results were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. No significant differences were found in glutathione levels between the blueberry group and placebo.
