EU inflation highest in two years: energy prices up 18.9 percent
The harmonized consumer price index (HICP) in the European Union rose in September to 3.8 percent year-on-year — the highest since September 2023. The main driver is energy prices, which in the euro zone were 18.9 percent higher than a year earlier; excluding energy, inflation stands at just 2.3 percent. In Poland, HICP inflation reached 4.0 percent (versus 3.5 percent in August), hitting its highest level since March of the year. Romania records the highest inflation in the EU (6.5 percent), Sweden the lowest (1.0 percent).
