Troops on Milan streets after riots: Meloni announces 500 more soldiers
Following last week's looting riots, Milan strengthened protection of its center — soldiers patrolled streets with military vehicles and water cannons, and helicopters circled Piazza del Duomo. Premier Giorgia Meloni announced sending an additional 500 soldiers to the city and tougher penalties for minors, who police said made up a large share of those responsible for the previous riots. Luxury boutiques were boarded up, and some tourists announced they would leave the center if clashes occur again.
