El Niño could reach strength unseen in 40 years, WMO chief warns

Celeste Saulo, head of the UN meteorological agency WMO, warned on Wednesday that the El Niño phenomenon could reach a strength beyond anything observed over the last four decades. It threatens heat waves, droughts and floods across different regions of the world. The phenomenon could also negatively affect agriculture, fishing and food prices.
