Lab-grown embryo models look like real ones but work differently
Laboratory models of early human embryos made from stem cells — called blastoids — resemble true blastocysts under the microscope, but new research shows their cellular makeup differs from natural embryos. Despite their morphological similarity, blastoids may not accurately reflect the processes occurring just before implantation in the uterus. The finding limits their usefulness as a research model in studies of fertility and the beginning of pregnancy.
