IMF: Bank of Japan will raise interest rates
The International Monetary Fund expects the Bank of Japan to gradually raise interest rates toward the neutral level, even as growth slows. In its October World Economic Outlook report, the IMF lowered its forecast for Japan's 2026 GDP growth to 0.7% from 1.2% a year earlier. The Fund notes that Japan, dependent on energy imports, is particularly exposed to external shocks; the IMF also allows for currency interventions to defend the yen.
