EU paid Russia record 7.88 billion euros for Arctic gas

In the first nine months of 2026, EU states spent approximately 7.88 billion euros on liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia's Yamal Arctic project. A record 12.18 million tons of the commodity reached European ports – 9.5 percent more than a year earlier. Imports are growing despite political declarations about reducing dependence on Russian energy resources.
