ECB recruits merchants for digital euro pilot
The European Central Bank invited online sellers from the eurozone to a 12-month digital euro pilot. Participants will test a beta version intended to match the model outlined in EU regulation. The digital euro is meant to be a European alternative to private payment systems and dollar stablecoins, but its 2029 launch depends on EU legislation being adopted. The currency used in tests will not be legal tender.
