People with severe mental illness die 15–20 years earlier

Adults with severe mental illness are nearly five times more likely to die from serious physical disease before age 75 than the general population, according to an analysis of NHS data by the Rethink Mental Illness foundation. These people die on average 15–20 years earlier than other adults, mainly from avoidable physical conditions. Health inequalities in this group have been called stark.
