American golden bolete established in Polish forests
The golden bolete (Chalciporus piperatus var. americanus), a species native to North America, is becoming increasingly common in Polish forests. A dozen years ago finding it was rare; today mushroom foragers collect baskets of it, and new sites are being discovered hundreds of kilometers from its original locations. The species is clearly continuing its expansion across Poland.
