EU bans social media for children under 13 and requires age verification

The European Commission adopted the Kids Act, EU legislation prohibiting social media use by children under 13. Children under 15 will not be able to create private accounts, with additional restrictions for users under 18. The rules apply to platforms including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, with user age to be verified.
