Rain rot attacks Europe: alarming rise in infections

The bacterium Dermatophilus congolensis, known as rain rot, causes inflammation in humans similar to smallpox, itching, and the formation of scabs and flaking skin lesions. Scientists have observed an exceptionally high number of infections in Europe in recent months. The disease is known primarily in animals, but human cases are raising growing concern.
