Inhibitory neurons in the brain cortex regulate synchronization and sleep
Research in mice showed that a small population of inhibitory neurons with long axons active during sleep in the neocortex promotes broad cortical synchronization and sleep. The discovery reveals a cortical mechanism of sleep regulation independent of previously known brain structures. Results were published in "Nature".
