End of largest U.S. cyclosporiasis outbreak: contaminated lettuce was the cause
The U.S. FDA has announced the end of the largest cyclosporiasis outbreak recorded in the country — a parasitic disease that affected nearly 13,000 people. Contaminated lettuce, now removed from the market, was the source of infections. Cyclospora cayetanensis is a protozoan that causes diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems.
