Toilet flushing launches bioaerosols reaching mouth level

Every flush triggers a violent water flow that produces fine droplets suspended in air up to mouth height. Some of these droplets may contain microorganisms from toilet water. A review of studies indicates that bioaerosol concentration depends on the number of microorganisms in the water and the volume used for flushing; the impact of closing the toilet lid is harder to assess.
