Nearly half of world's farmers poisoned by pesticides every year, study finds
A study commissioned by Pesticide Action Network, using publicly available data from 2006–2023, estimates 402–433 million cases of unintentional acute pesticide poisoning among farmers and farm workers annually. The poisonings kill around 11,000 people per year, with India accounting for nearly 60% of fatalities. The findings highlight a severe and widespread occupational health crisis in global agriculture.
