Supercentenarians' secret: unusually high numbers of killer immune cells

People aged 110 and over appear to have unusually high numbers of rare CD4 cytotoxic T cells capable of destroying abnormal cells. These cells grew more abundant with age and frequently expanded into large clusters of nearly identical clones, suggesting repeated immune responses to persistent threats. Researchers believe this immune trait may help explain extreme longevity.
