The 80s "stomach vacuum" is back — it activates your deep core muscles
The "stomach vacuum" exercise, popularised in the 1980s by fitness icons Jane Fonda and Raquel Welch, involves drawing in the abdomen during exhalation and holding the tension for several seconds. It targets the transverse abdominal muscle, which acts as a natural internal corset and stabilises posture. Requiring no equipment and doable almost anywhere, the technique is making a comeback as an alternative to traditional sit-ups.
