Cutting ultra-processed foods could prevent thousands of heart disease deaths
A Canadian modelling study suggests that ultra-processed foods (UPFs) such as ready meals, breakfast cereals, protein bars, fizzy drinks and fast food could drive up to one-third of heart disease cases. Researchers describe UPFs as a "substantial and potentially preventable" contributor to cardiovascular deaths. Cutting consumption of these products could prevent thousands of deaths annually, according to the study.
