Bloody Sunday 11 July 1943 — survivors' accounts of the Volhynia massacre
On 11 July 1943, UPA units carried out coordinated attacks on Polish villages in Volhynia, killing residents in churches, fields and homes with firearms, axes and pitchforks. Known as Bloody Sunday, this day marks the peak of a genocide that claimed between 50,000 and 100,000 Polish lives. Survivors' accounts describe scenes of mass murder of unimaginable cruelty.
