Limerence: what psychologists call obsessive attraction that isn't love

Psychologists use the term "limerence" to describe a state of intense, obsessive attraction that goes beyond a crush but is not the same as love. The condition can last months or even years and is characterised by intrusive thoughts about another person and an overwhelming need for reciprocation. Unlike love, limerence is rooted in fantasy and idealisation rather than genuine intimacy.
