Frýdlant Castle: 700-year stronghold an hour from Jelenia Góra
In Czech Frýdlant, an hour's drive from Jelenia Góra, a 13th-century castle rises on a basalt rock, combining a medieval fortress with a Renaissance palace. Connected to Albrecht von Wallenstein among others, the complex opened to visitors in 1801 — one of Central Europe's oldest castle museums. Inside are original furniture, weapons and armor; a tour takes 1–2 hours. Nearby, Cross Hill features basalt columns and ruins of a Way of the Cross path — a walk takes about 45–60 minutes.
