Kenyan cult leader sentenced to 200 years for deaths of 190 children

A court in Mombasa, Kenya, sentenced Paul Mackenzie, leader of a doomsday sect, to 200 years in prison — 100 years for murder by starvation and 100 years for direct murder. Mackenzie ordered followers to starve themselves and their families; victims included 190 children and one adult. The sentence came two weeks after conviction, in one of the largest cult tragedies in recent history.
