Fredry's "Vengeance" characters based on real feuding castle co-owners
The protagonists of Aleksander Fredry's "Vengeance" – Chamberlain Raptusiewicz and Notary Milczek – were not fictional creations. They were inspired by two feuding co-owners of Kamieniec castle in Odrzykonie near Krosno, whose history dates to the 14th century. Their dispute lasted years and became the inspiration for Poland's most celebrated comedy, written nearly 200 years ago.
