Oldest evidence of cannabis use: 2,800-year-old burial mound in Siberia

Archaeologists discovered in the "royal mound" Tunnug in the Ujuk valley in southern Siberia the oldest known traces of cannabis use — plant seeds and chemical traces of THC in mummified hair. The grave, dating to 2,800 years ago, belongs to Scythian culture and contained log coffins, with horse skeletons arranged as sacrificial offerings outside. Researchers suggest that cannabis may have been used ritually to sedate victims sacrificed during funeral rites. The findings were published Thursday in the journal Science.
