Ilse Aigner to become first female president of Germany

CDU/CSU and SPD are nominating Ilse Aigner as the successor to Frank-Walter Steinmeier — she would be the first woman to hold Germany's presidency. Aigner, a CSU member, currently serves as president of the Bavarian State Parliament; she previously was agriculture minister in Angela Merkel's government (2008–2013). The official announcement of the nomination is scheduled for Monday.
