Dagmara Bożek wintered on Spitsbergen and caught "polar fever"
Dagmara Bożek arrived at the Polish Polar Station Hornsund on Spitsbergen by chance — she and her husband sent CVs to the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and were selected. She worked for a year as station administrator and ran an educational project for Polish schools. She admits the stay changed her life — "polar fever" makes her want to return, and veterans have several winters on their records. She worries about the shrinking number of applicants for upcoming expeditions each year.
