EU prosecutors investigate fraud in Spain's railway modernization

The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) has opened an investigation into potential financial irregularities in EU funding for the Madrid–Seville high-speed rail line modernization. On this route, 69 people died in a rail disaster near Urda on 28 October. This is the second such investigation — a similar proceeding was launched in March following a January crash on the same line that killed 46 people.
