Valles Marineris on Mars remains tectonically active

New analysis of marsquake S0976a from August 25, 2021, recorded by NASA's InSight lander, shows that Valles Marineris — the largest canyon in the solar system — remains tectonically active. The magnitude 4.2 tremor originated from the western part of the canyon, on the opposite side of Mars from the lander. Mars is considered geologically "dead," but results indicate tectonic activity in this region continues today.
