Salon.com ends operations after 31 years as online media pioneer

Salon, one of the first exclusively online news magazines, announced the end of publication after 31 years. In an anonymous post, the editorial staff stated that "the business realities of independent digital journalism have fundamentally changed" and the current publishing model "is no longer sustainable." The site launched as a digital media pioneer and for three decades was one of the recognizable voices of opinion leadership in the USA.
