Salmon and farmed fish prices to rise: fish meal and El Niño blamed
The Polish Association of Fish Processors warns of price increases for fish, particularly salmon. In the first seven months of 2026, fish meal production fell 49 percent year-on-year, while fish oil prices rose from approximately 1500–1750 to approximately 6500 euros per tonne — a fourfold jump. The cause is strong El Niño in the eastern Pacific, hampering catches off the coasts of Peru and Chile. Association director Arletta Wenderlich acknowledges that price increases cannot be avoided but gives no specific figures.
