Underwater telescope in Mediterranean confirms special relativity principle

The ORCA neutrino detector, submerged 2.4 km beneath the surface of the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Toulon in France, tested one of the fundamental principles of Einstein's theory of relativity — the isotropy of space, which assumes that the laws of nature look the same regardless of the direction and velocity of the observer. Analysis of data from the first detection units showed no deviations from this principle. Among those who contributed to building the telescope was doctoral student Alba Domi, who participated in lowering the detectors to the sea floor.
