Sagrada Família built without permit for 137 years: fine totals 4.6 million euros
Construction of Barcelona's Sagrada Família basilica began in 1882, and Antoni Gaudí submitted a building permit application in 1885, but never received a formal response. Barcelona issued the official permit only in June 2019. The foundation managing the basilica paid 4.6 million euros for it and committed to providing 36 million euros for public investments in the area around the temple over ten years.
