Hakeem Jeffries may become first Black House Speaker
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has a chance to make history after his party nominated him for Speaker following midterm election victories. The vote will take place on January 3 at the opening session of the new Congress. Jeffries has served since and is the highest-ranking Black politician in the legislative branch. House Speaker is the second most important office in the US after the presidency.
