Scientists force cancer cells to produce drugs that kill them

Researchers developed a method in which carbon monoxide naturally produced by cancer cells is used to synthesize powerful drugs inside the tumor itself. In early laboratory tests, the technique selectively destroyed cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. The discovery may open the way to safer alternatives to traditional chemotherapy.
