New York Times sues Brave: browser bypasses paywalls and sells content to AI firms

The New York Times and other publishers filed a lawsuit against Brave Software in federal district court for the Southern District of New York. They accuse the Brave browser of illegally bypassing paid access barriers and selling content from its search index to AI companies, including Anthropic, Perplexity, Mistral, xAI and Cohere. According to third-party estimates, Brave earned over 100 million dollars this way, while publishers received nothing.
