Vera Rubin Observatory discovers two new satellites of the Milky Way
The Vera Rubin Observatory has detected two faint satellites of the Milky Way: an ultra-faint dwarf galaxy and a globular cluster. The objects were previously invisible due to their low brightness. Both represent missing pieces in the history of galactic mergers and will help better understand the role of dark matter in galaxy formation.
