Satellites reveal 2,600-year-old Egyptian complex beneath Nile Delta silt

Egyptian researchers located an underground structure the size of a football pitch, dating to around 2,600 years ago, at Tell el-Fara'in (ancient Buto). Satellite imagery enabled them to see below the water table in the marshy clay of the Nile Delta. Buto was the sacred city of the goddess Wadjet and one of ancient Egypt's most important religious centers. Previous excavations reached only layers from the Ptolemaic and Roman periods.
