Russia Nears Completion of Massive Radar in Kaliningrad
Near Gvardeyskoye in Kaliningrad, Russia has nearly finished building an enormous over-the-horizon (OTH) radar with a range of roughly 3000 km — enough to monitor nearly the entire European continent and all of Ukraine. The three arms of the complex are each over 500 meters long. According to experts, the system will enable detection of ballistic missiles and aircraft, interception of satellite communications, and tracking of NATO troop movements. Analysts warn the radar will also hamper the effectiveness of drones used in regional defense.
