Hotels curtail breakfast buffets as guests waste 300g of food per meal
Breakfast buffets generate around 300g of food waste per guest, compared to around 130g for ordered meals, according to data cited by BBC. Hotel chains increasingly seek ways to reduce waste. Psychologists point to the "variety effect" and guests' vacation mindset as main reasons for overfilling plates. According to a UNEP report, food service accounts for 28 percent of the 1.05 billion tons of food wasted annually worldwide.
