UN peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara ends after US and Russia vetoes

The mandate of UN peacekeeping forces in Western Sahara expired on 31 October after the Security Council failed to adopt a resolution to extend it. This resulted from vetoes by the United States and Russia. The future of the mission remains uncertain.
