Vera C. Rubin Observatory discovers possible sixth dwarf planet in the solar system

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has discovered an object beyond Neptune's orbit that may be a new dwarf planet. If confirmed, the number of officially recognized dwarf planets would rise to six. The object is among the largest and brightest known bodies in that region — upper estimates indicate its diameter exceeds half that of Pluto. Astrophysicist Matthew Holman admitted that his first reaction was "excited disbelief."
