Worms: Rhine city with settlements from 7,000 years ago
Worms in Rhineland-Palatinate is one of Germany's oldest cities — the first settlements arose here around 7,000 years ago, and the Celtic name Borbetomagus is the earliest recorded name of the place. Trier, Kempten and Neuss also claim the title of "oldest." The city's landmark is the Romanesque Cathedral of St. Peter, counted among three imperial cathedrals on the Rhine. Worms is also known for its monument to Martin Luther, commemorating his appearance before the Diet of the Holy Roman Empire in 1521, and for the Nibelungs legend.
